Section R11-1-1107. Safety factors for friction hoist ropes, tail ropes, and guide and rubbing ropes

  • A.       Hoisting rope installed on a friction hoist shall have a factor of safety of not less than that determined from the following for- mula: F. of S. = 8.0 - .0005d, where “d” is the maximum length of rope suspended below the head sheave in feet.

    B.       For friction hoists, the factor of safety in the hoisting ropes shall be not less than 5.5 for any depth of shaft when the ropes are installed.

    C.       The factor of safety of tail ropes shall be not less than 7 when installed.

    D.       The factor of safety of guide and rubbing ropes shall be not less than 5 when installed.
