Section R4-8-501. Treatment of Patients by Acupuncture Students; Supervision

  • A.      Before a supervising acupuncturist allows an acupuncture stu- dent to treat a patient, the supervising acupuncturist shall:

    1.        Consult with the acupuncture student regarding the treat- ment to be provided;

    2.        Ensure that the acupuncture student has the level of train- ing required to provide the treatment safely and effec- tively;

    3.        Ensure that written evidence of informed consent is obtained from the patient indicating that the patient knows a student will be treating the patient; and

    4.        Ensure that the supervisor is physically present in the clinic during any patient treatment performed by the acu- puncture student.

    B.       If an acupuncture student treats a patient, the supervising acu- puncturist shall ensure that records of the treatment:

    1.        Are maintained as required under R4-8-502;

    2.        Include the written evidence of informed  consent required under subsection (A)(3), and

    3.        Indicate the names of both the supervising acupuncturist and the acupuncture student.
